Prodigicus Supreme

   Here we have another one of Clint’s old characters. In this case, Clint was fascinated with Transformers, and really wanted to bring one into the Shadowrun game. Well, the system could be stretched to cover it for him (although just barely): an “Ace” (a Class-A version of a Physical Adept) could duplicate most of the abilities provided that we accepted “transforms the user into a giant, blatantly obvious, robot” and “cannot be turned off” as valid limitations. Of course, given that most missions in Shadowrun require stealth, those did indeed turn out to be pretty crippling – in fact, nearly impossibly so. The fact that “Prodigicus Supreme” insisted on following a cartoon-based code of behavior virtually restricted his activities to being sent somewhere to distract attention while the rest of the group pulled off the job.

   Still, the rest of the group found him useful enough to put up with, as well as acceptable within the rules – which is about all you need to at least try out a character.

   In play, Prodigicus didn’t take it too well when he finally accepted that most of his abilities were based on magic. He eventually “determined” that there had been some sort of malfunction of his “transwarp drive” in another dimension and that his consciousness had been transferred into the head of an Ace mountain-climber who’d suffered brain damage in an avalanche. In the process, he’d tapped into the man’s powers to recreate himself from the severely damaged body.

   This still didn’t explain those old cartoons showing most of his friends, allies, and enemies, but that might have been someone with unconscious transdimensional clairvoyant powers who’d accidently used the things he’d dreamed of as the basis for the program.

   Well, if that was what he wanted to believe, it worked well enough. The rest of the group – and the world – simply assumed that he was crazy, and may or may not have been right.

  • Flaws: Honorable and Ethical (-5), “Hung Out To Dry” (No initial contacts, -4), Can’t Use Magical Foci (-2), No Sense of Smell or Taste (-2), No Identity or Initial Cash (-3), Subject to odd Systems Failures when Injured (-3), Internal “Controls” may override intentions (-2), and Astral Impressions (-2). Net; -23 points.

   A fair number of those skills were purchased at half price, thanks to the fact that they were (1) utterly useless, and (2) might not even exist. After all, there was a pretty strong possibility that the entire “Autobot” thing was simply lifted from old cartoons and otherwise entirely in his own head.

  1. I don’t know that we ever did decide what was up with him. On the one hand, we had to admit we’d never even heard fo any physical adept-type doing anything even remotely resembling a hint of a refelction of a shadow of this guy. That did make it somewhat hard to just assume he was “merely” an Ace. And some characters in SR games did have some experience with odd trans-dimensional occurances. So we couldn’t really rule it out.

    That said, we did know he was crazy. That was apparently true regardless of whether or not he was a transformer. He was utterly incapable of comprehending this world and really, really didint understand what he was doing.

    Y’know, we really need to do a video tribute to Clint.
