Cabal: The Producer

The Producer (Zvolf)

Story: Gary Stewart’s tricks started out by merely exploiting the pocketbooks of his television audience. But now The Producer works for the Cabal now, no longer limited to merely bilking parents with overpriced merchandise. A natural-born genius only held back by his own his own erratic personality, Stewart applied his intellect to media. He developed mathematical principles of mental manipulation – at first just descriptors to help him create really obnoxious cartoon shows, but later advanced to minor hypnotic suggestion (Buy Now! Use the Deceptive Financing Terms!) Stewart quickly made a fortune, although he was too emotionally unstable to keep it.

He came to the attention of The Cabal after a brief crime spree following the cancellation of his last television production, as his personality flaws began to outweigh his profitability. Instead of smashing up the offices or going on a killing rampage, however, Stewart altered the officially-recorded ratings of the studio’s programs while sabotaging their financial systems. The effect was subtle at first, but cost the station many millions in revenue as news of the studios’s declining viewership went public alongside its hemorraging accounting system.

As it turned out, the Cabal owned that studio and was definitely not amused. However, his ability to conceal his electronic traces couldn’t stop the Cabal from noting that a mad genius with a grudge was the obvious source of the trouble. But in displaying that much talent, along with a healthy disregard for decency and the law, Stewart attracted considerable respect and interest instead of hatred. Gary Stewart immediately accepted their new employment offer, particularly as the alternative was “suicide” at the hands of Cabal agents, and became The Producer. He’s never looked back. His extreme skiills quickly earned him promotion to head of information security. As it turned out, the Cabal had long suspected he was weaving subliminal messages into his programming, and encouraged him to develop his theories even further.

The Producer now shores up the Cabal’s security by implanting loyalty in its soldiers and workers, as well as reprogramming the memories of anyone who discovers too much. While he can’t manage permanent control or total mental alteration, his abilities are quite enough to erase or implant memories, as well as inserting triggered actions. Further, his understanding of communications technology makes him responsible for much of the Cabal’s digital security as well. His ability to conceal almost all electronic and digital signatures make him the ultimate communications manager. Better yet, he’s an effective spy, with a full suite of abilities for watching everything he wants, and pulling apart the data afterward. While not a leader of the Cabal, the Producer is definitely one its most convenient, and very-well prized, servants. He’s given every courtesy and trusted to know many secrets, although frequently he learns more than his superiors desire. His Paranoid and Prankster traits put a considerable strain on his profesional relationships, as it were, but not nearly enough to discard him. The Cabal certainly notes that both make it easier to dismiss him as a madman should he ever be caught.

triggered or delayed, etc.): Max. Advantage ¼, +1¼; OAF: -1; The Producer’s Mind Control is limited to subtle effects and is very slow to work. He usually needs his victims to watch multiple episodes

of his special productions, but that’s enough to implant hypnotic suggestions. His Mind Control is also visual, not actually Verbal, but has similar limitations compared to Telepathic.

+½; Usable by Others Number: 2, +¼; The Producer is effectively invisible to electronic tracking. His accounts can’t be found, he leaves no traces from staying in a hotel, and can transmit electronic

messages without leaving a digital trail. On the downside, he has to spend a good long time creating false identities to use. Having destroyed his digital signature completely, he also can’t turn it back on.

Anyone trying trace him digitally would need extensive work to link usual system errors and blank spots in time logs of system scattered across half the internet.
