For today, it’s one of the characters from the World Tree campaign – Ivarell, a young Cani with a remarkable sense of smell.
Ivarell was a young and unwanted Cani – part of a small group who were so far down on their luck that they were supporting themselves with petty crime. They weren’t so far down as to rob the locals – but they were perfectly willing to go along with a fellow who wanted to hire them to swipe some minor (if presumably embarrassing or something) junk from some fairly newly-arrived travelers who’d rented a house. The fact that he was willing to provide a few useful bound spells, better weapons, and half the money in advance, just made the deal all the more attractive.
Unfortunately, the player characters were far more formidable than they’d expected. They were already associated with a local Zi Ri Smith Mage, working for one of the local noble houses, and far too powerful for a group of youngsters on the street to mess with – particularly unwanted youngsters with no connections of their own. The group promptly captured them and chained them up in the attic while they attempted (unsuccessfully) to locate the fellow who’d hired them. They didn’t succeed – the fellow was long gone: the information he’d gotten had been well worth the sacrifice of some cheap pawns – but they did get a little information out of the four youngsters they’d captured.
They put them to work cleaning up the mess they’d made around the house while they checked with their local patrons about what to do with them – and found that no one cared very much. Well, they’d be needing some house-slaves, and it was always convenient to have some volunteers.
Ivarell got towed around with them a good deal, mostly because he was familiar with the cities streets, as well as being the one most likely to recognize the scent of their sneaky opponent. He and his friends eventually found that belonging to the group was not at all a bad thing…

Ivarell had a variety of minor, practical spells grafted – most notably a minor healing spell or two, a couple of sensory boosters (making him even better at sniffing things out), and other utility stuff.
After traveling with a party of adventurers for awhile, he found himself in possession of some metal weapons, better spells, powerful bound spells, and – eventually – even a few minor enchanted objects and a hell of a lot of experience, both from active adventuring and from years worth of training and tutoring.
